Unit 6 Lead-in Questions

By 胡宜雯 老师 24天前 583次浏览

For example, it is observed that in most cases the traffic rules are obeyed.

But if you are the only one waiting for the traffic lights at the crossroads and it is safe to run the red light since there seems to be no vehicle on the road, will you choose to obey the rules as usual?

Share your experiences and opinions on this topic. Give more examples.

Most of the time, I still wait for the green light before crossing the road. But if there are special circumstances, I will break the traffic rule and cross the road while ensuring "safety". Such examples also occur to me. For instance, during high school PE classes, we would follow the teacher to the playground for activities. During the free time after the class is over, I would gather with my good friends. Some of us might bring snacks or candies. To save time and effort, we would throw the garbage into the gaps between the red plastic track and the green lawn. It seems like a sewer and is used for drainage during rainy days. I have also heard the PE teacher explain that some sports-specialized students might vomit in there after intense training.

I think I won't follow the rules as usual. If it's safe to do so, I will choose to cross the road. Because I'm not a patient person and I don't like waiting. When facing similar situations in normal circumstances, I always choose the quicker method too.

Other examples: If you are walking on the street and see a lost wallet, would you return it to the owner or keep it for yourself? I think this is a very common situation in people's daily lives, and it can easily test a person's qualities. If it were me, I would choose to wait there for a while for the owner to return. If I don't manage to wait for the owner to come back, I would give it to the local staff or call the police.

To be honest, if there seems to be no vehicle on the road, I may break the rules and cross the road when it is the red light. It's based on my safety and this will save my time. But in my hometown Yangzhou, there are a lot of electric vehicles on the streets. A lot of people will run red lights at the last moment,I think break the rules in this way is not a good idea, this situation is usually dangerous, the vehicle speed is very high while people's reaction ability is rather slow, making it highly likely for a car accident to occur.

Other similar examples such as some people will drop litters everywhere deliberately when nobody see them ; some people will spit on the floor when there's nobody around. The last one is that mentioned in the ending of the class: some people will go across the grass just to take a shortcut. I think these rules should be obeyed.

Normally, I wouldn't. From childhood to adulthood, under red lights, if there were no vehicles, I would not abide by traffic rules. Even my family does this. My grandmother never believes in traffic lights, she only looks at vehicles on the roadside regardless of the traffic lights. Sometimes even if it's a red light but there are no vehicles, she will pass directly. Similarly, when it's a green light, she always has to look at the vehicles, so I also have a subtle influence. But at some point, a screen was installed on the roadside that displayed photos of pedestrians running red lights. Unfortunately, one day I was in a hurry to go to school and got caught on camera at a crossroads. I felt extremely ashamed. On the same day, a car accident occurred at the same intersection, and the reason was running a red light. From now on, I can no longer be careful when crossing the road. Behind seemingly safe 'shortcuts', there may be vehicles with blind spots and sudden traffic situations. So I believe that following traffic rules is particularly necessary.

If I were the only person around and there were no vehicles, and as long as my safety was guaranteed, I would choose to run the red light, even if I didn't have anything urgent to do. However, this also depends on the duration of the red light. If there were only a few seconds left, I would still follow the traffic rules. I believe this is the subtle influence brought to me by the current fast-paced life, where I lack the patience to wait. In such situations, running the red light is an act that violates traffic rules, and I feel ashamed about it. Similar behaviors to this situation come to mind, such as the protagonist Tony in the movie "Green Book", who, while resting at a souvenir stand, picked up a lucky stone that had fallen on the ground, kept it quiet, didn't pay for it, and put it in his pocket. Of course, at the request of Dr. Sherry, he returned it to the store. The author uses this behavior to shape Tony's image as a petty criminal and to reflect his low moral sense. Such situations are also similar to those where no people or vehicles are waiting for the red light, and they are all tests of our moral sense. I think that if we want to do something that goes against morality and violates rules, we must not do it. Because once we do it, there will be endless troubles. Not to mention the punishment we will face if discovered, personally, we will constantly worry about being discovered by others, and our hearts won't be at peace. This also lets us be a person without morality, which is irresponsible towards ourselves. In the future, I will strictly require myself to abide by the rules and use morality to restrain myself, and not do anything that violates the rules and morality.

I firmly believe in always obeying traffic rules. Once, I waited at a deserted intersection instead of running a red light. Traffic rules are established based on safety research, and breaking them sets a bad example. For instance, in some places, neglecting rules has led to traffic chaos. Disregarding rules undermines trust among road users, just as when a cyclist runs a red light and endangers others.

There are some paths on the grass in our school.Students trample out a new path to save time .Maybe somebody get up late not to go  to  classroom on time,or the sunshine is too bright and harsh, so we want to take the quickest path to the dormitory. This my idea for taking this path

I think I will wait for the green light before leaving because I konw we should obey the rules. However,if I go with my grandparents, they wouldn't wait but pull me away even though I have told they many times that it's not safe.

Eating and drinking are often not allowed in the library, but few people strictly follow this rule in our school library, including me.Passengers are also not allowed to eat or drink in the Nanjing subway, and if they are reported, they will be fined 20 yuan. But if there's a bottle of water or milktea at my hand,I will still take a sip unconsciously.

As a typical Libra, I am extremely sensitive to things like order and rules that have binding force. I pursue balance and harmony in my heart and hate it when the order and plans are disrupted. Therefore, even in the above-mentioned situations, I will still hold onto my inner boundaries and obey the traffic rules. Otherwise, I will have a strong sense of "moral violation".

For instance, if I am on a self-driving tour, on a highway, or in a scenic area where no one knows me , I still won't choose to litter. This is extremely harmful to the environment. I don't want to see white pollutants on the clean road or in the green scenic area. That would be terrible! At the same time, I will remind my family to bring their own garbage bags, not to throw garbage out of the car window during the drive, and not to litter in the scenic area.

When there's no one around, I might run a red light, but I'll always check the safety of my surroundings. There are many more examples. For instance, when walking on the lawn, sometimes I feel that some of the curves are unnecessary. If I see that the lawn has already been trampled, I will still walk on it. Although the slogan warns us very kindly, I also know that this is not a good practice. So everyone should not follow this example either.

I'd always obey the rules. Once, I was alone at a crossroads at night. No cars were in sight, yet I waited. Rules exist for safety and order. However, if an urgent situation leaves me with insufficient time to wait for the green light to come on, I may break the rules and run the red light.

I obey the traffic rules more often than not. I think set these traffic rules in order to guarantee our safety and society’s order. And I think traffic rules are also symbolic of our life rules, if we can’t obey these basic rules, maybe we will break other rules in our life in the future. So, I think obeying the traffic rules is a moral standard for a person. Obeying traffic rules are not only a society’s standard but also a reflection of morality to a person.

For me, it depends on the weather. If it’s very hot, I usually don’t follow the rules because I’m sure I’ll be safe, and I can not stand the heat. So I’ll cross the road as quickly as I can. But if it’s cool, I’m willing to wait for a few seconds.  The experience I’ve had was last summer vacation when I went to the dance studio for practice. The class started at 3:00 PM, and I left home at 2:30 PM. The studio was close to my home, so I had enough time to get there. But you know, it was extremely hot, and the sun was very strong. There were hardly any people or cars on the street. On the way, there were two traffic lights. I just kept walking straight, whether the light was red or green.

Yangzhou is very strict with checking helmet. When I think there will be no traffic police on the road, I will ride without a helmet. But when I get caught riding without a helmet, I turn around and run. Although I know this is very undisciplined behavior, I always find it troublesome to wear a helmet. I will definitely correct it in the future, because the helmet is really necessary.

I will obey traffic rules. Rules exist not only to restrict but also to protect. Even if there are no cars around, we cannot rule out the 0.1% probability that a car may rush out from any corner. For instance, in unmanned supermarkets, people queue up voluntarily to check out by themselves. No one cuts in line and no one misses scanning a single item. People have internalized these rules and put them into practice.

Under normal conditions, I think I will wait there even though others all run the red light or there seems to be no cars on the road. Because  I think running the red light is not only a very dangerous action, you always don't know if there exist some hidden dangerous nearby. And most important, it relates to self-discipline, especially when there is no one around, it can better inflect the importance of this precious quality. For example, when the rubbish bin by the road is full, some people will put their rubbish bags outside the bin, and sometimes even occupied the road, when I  encounter this situation, I will choose to put my rubbish in other rubbish bins if I am not so busy, because I think this is exactly the embodiment of social morality.

I will choose to obey the rules.Because in the city where I live, there is a huge screen by the roadside. If someone runs a red light, their photo will be taken and displayed on the screen for a long time. This is very embarrassing. Now I always stop at red lights and follow traffic laws as a matter of course.

More experiences: In unmanned stores, products are placed on shelves for customers to take and pay by themselves. However, some people still secretly take items when no one is watching. With no supervision, the system relies entirely on people's honesty.

I think I will follow the rules, even if no one is around. Because for a rule, whether or not to comply with it is a principle recognition from a person's heart, rather than to gain anyone's attention or appreciation. For example, I never litter. Even on deserted roads, I don't casually throw garbage on the ground. Instead, I hold onto it until I find a trash can. This is not a fear of punishment or other consequences after being discovered, but a habitual good quality that is as commonplace as having to eat every day.

Rules are rigid, but people are flexible. Rules are made by people, and any rule should be subject to circumstances to decide whether to follow it or not. In the hot summer, when I encounter a red light but there's no one around, I will run it because it's just too hot.

I will follow the rules as usual. Let's start with an objective analysis. Even if there are no vehicles passing by at the moment, what if a vehicle suddenly appears when one is halfway across the road? It would be dangerous, and the person would be fully responsible for the accident.Subjectively, I would never run a red light. I have personally experienced such a situation at a crossroads in the countryside. Even though there were no vehicles, I still followed the rules because my inner morality wouldn't allow me to do otherwise.

  • 82240109陈悦 20天前

    I will obey the rules.

First, when you stand at the intersection, you may not be able to see the vehicles coming from other directions. If a car is coming at high speed from a direction you can not see, and you cross the road against the rules at the moment,it will lead to a traffic accident.  I value my life, so I will not to do dangerous things.

Secondly, I think this issue is similar to the question of whether to leash a dog when walking it. Some dog owners allow their dogs to be very gentle and don’t tie them up when walking them. However ,it is often these owners who are the victims of dog attacks.

I will definitely obey the traffic rules. When I was six years old, my mother wanted to train my independence and let me go home by myself. Then one day, I ran a red light because I was eager to get home. That was the only time I ever did so. Coincidentally, I almost got knocked down by a speeding motorcycle. Luckily, only my right foot was run over, but the driver fell to the ground due to sudden braking. I felt extremely guilty at that time because the driver fell because of me. However, he didn't get angry! Instead, he cared about whether I was hurt. Maybe he didn't blame me because he thought I was too young. Since then, I've never run a red light again.
I think there is a particularly good example to share with you, which is the issue of whether to wear a helmet when riding a motor vehicle. In my opinion, since we can't predict whether we will encounter danger while riding, I think it is a must to wear a helmet when we ride. I will definitely wear a helmet when I ride myself, no matter how clean or dirty it is.As long as I put on a helmet, I feel full of security!

There are many examples of rule challenges in our daily life. For example, eating in the library isn't allowed. But there is still  someone eating.
