Unit 6 Lead-in Questions

By 胡宜雯 老师 24天前 580次浏览

For example, it is observed that in most cases the traffic rules are obeyed.

But if you are the only one waiting for the traffic lights at the crossroads and it is safe to run the red light since there seems to be no vehicle on the road, will you choose to obey the rules as usual?

Share your experiences and opinions on this topic. Give more examples.

It depends on what vehicle I am driving. If I drive a car, of course ,I will obey the traffic rules. But if I just drive a shared bike or e-bike , perhaps I won't obey the rules, cuz I have a road rage.

More experiences: When I go to the supermaket like Sam or Hema, there are always a lot of pretastes and as for me, I just pretaste them a lot but I won't but them unless the food is particularly delicious.

You won't but them or you won't buy them? But I don't think this is an experience that is related to self-discipline? To buy or not to buy is your choice. Of course for the first one, a good example. :)

回复 18768517227:Whether to obey traffic rules when it seems “safe” to run a red light at an empty intersection is a matter that reflects one's moral and ethical stance, as well as the understanding of the importance of rules. From my perspective, we should always adhere to obeying traffic rules, and here are the reasons and some examples to illustrate. 1. Reasons for obeying traffic rules • Ensuring personal safety: Traffic rules are formulated based on countless traffic accident data and experiences. Even if the road appears empty at a moment, there could be unexpected situations. For instance, a vehicle might suddenly speed out from a side road due to the driver's negligence, or a cyclist or pedestrian could be obscured by buildings or parked cars and suddenly emerge. Running a red light exposes oneself to these potential risks, and a momentary misjudgment can lead to serious and even life - threatening accidents. • Upholding social order: Traffic rules are an important part of social order. If everyone makes their own judgment to violate the rules when they think it is “safe,” the traffic system will fall into chaos. This chaos not only disrupts the normal travel of others but also undermines the trust and cooperation within society. Just like in a well - coordinated symphony, every musician needs to follow the score; in society, everyone needs to abide by the rules to ensure smooth operation. • Setting a good example: Our actions can influence those around us, especially children and the younger generation. By strictly following traffic rules, we become role models, teaching them the importance of self - discipline and respect for the law. If a child sees an adult running a red light casually, they may think that rules can be ignored, which will have a negative impact on their values and behavior in the long run.

When I rode an electric scooter before, sometimes I ran red lights when I saw no vehicles or people around, and didn't obey traffic rules. That's because I thought the red light time was too long. It was very cold waiting in winter and very hot in summer, so I wanted to get back indoors quickly. Besides, when there was no traffic police inspection, I wouldn't wear a helmet because I thought it was too troublesome.

I will choose to obey the rules.Because once I encountered a man who ran a red light. He passed me by at a rapid pace.He almost ran into me.This left me with a psychological scar.Because he didn't follow the traffic rules, he almost caused an accident. So even though the chance is very small, I still have to follow the rules.

I may not obey the rules as usual. For example, evening self-study classes in high school usually end very late. I often stay in the classroom for another hour. At that time, hardly any cars were on the road, so I wouldn't strictly obey the traffic rules as I did during the day.

What I saw was about garbage classification. I still don't know how to classify garbage. Most people nowadays just throw it all together. Maybe it's because it hasn't been popularized enough, or there are no strict legal constraints, or the relevant departments haven't been fully established.

I will follow the rules as usual. The traffic law is not only a rule, but also a safety of human life. In my daily life, when I go to the bathroom, I throw paper into the paper basket and flush the toilet before leaving for the next person to use. This is the simplest and most common rule that needs to be followed in daily life, but some people can't do it, resulting in a worse bathroom environment.

I will obey traffic rules as usual, because I believe that even if the road is empty, running a red light is an immoral act and may be captured by cameras, thus constituting a violation of the law. Moreover, running red lights may also prompt others to imitate, causing a bad social impact.

In life, I have seen many people litter casually on roads without surveillance, or walk their dogs without public morality, which deteriorates the community environment. These all reflect a lack of awareness of rules. I think we should better regulate ourselves when no one is watching and improve our own qualities.

In my view, we should always adhere to traffic rules, even in seemingly “safe” situations like the one described. Once, I was in a hurry for an important meeting and found myself alone at a crossroads with no cars in sight. But I still waited for the green light. Although it might seem like a waste of time in that moment, traffic rules are not just about individual convenience but about overall road safety and order.

If I am in a hurry, I think I might run a red light in such a situation, but if there is no rush, I will still follow the traffic rules. Sometimes when I ride electric bikes, I don't wear helmets or install canopies on them. In addition, when my friends and I go to a nearby place for fun, we will sit on the same shared bicycle. Often, people tend to break traffic rules out of convenience, but this is incorrect. We should try our best to avoid it.

traffic rules are not optional suggestions; they are essential for the safety and order of our roads. We should always choose to obey them, regardless of how “safe” it may seem to break them. By doing so, we contribute to a safer and more harmonious traffic environment for everyone.

I generally obey traffic rules for several reasons. First, since I live in the city center where roads are rarely empty, I’ve developed the habit of waiting for green lights. Additionally, a tragic incident left a deep impression on me: I once heard about a reckless driver who drank a lot for emotional thins, causing 13 fatalities, which made me realize even careful pedestrians aren’t entirely safe. This awareness not only has made me value my life deeply, but also others' lives.

Though I sometimes worry careless drivers might ignore rules even when I’m crossing properly, I prioritize safety above all. Therefore, when I drive,I'll definitelty obey the rules. Of course, if I’m ever running late, I’ll do my best to avoid rushing. But should time-sensitive emergencies arise, I would still ensure any urgency stays within safe boundaries.

If I were to come, I might wait for the green light to go. But if I had something urgent to do at that time, I might run the red light. Besides this, there are other situations as well. For example, walking on a street without any trash cans, and at this moment having trash in my hand but having no place to throw it. Some people choose to throw it, while others choose not to. But I think in this case, I would choose to wait until I find a trash can before throwing it.

If there seem to be no vehicles on the road, I will still abide by the traffic rules. Even if pedestrians around me run the red light, it is difficult for me to convince myself to follow them. Because my family members have been in a traffic accident before, I am particularly cautious about travel matters, and I cannot do without a helmet when riding an electric vehicle.

There are times when I can't restrain myself. For example, in spring, the community is covered with large areas of beautiful flowers. I once secretly picked some when no one was around. Afterward, seeing the flowers slowly wither, I felt extremely guilty. Since then, I have told myself that I can only pick up the flowers that have fallen to the ground. Flowers are most beautiful when they are in full bloom on the branches.

I saw this while scrolling through videos:

    1. An old man was driving an electric tricycle ("old-timer's joy") and ran a red light. When stopped by traffic police, he claimed, "It's okay, I'm driving slowly," and added, "Red lights are for cars." When the police asked for the key, the man said, "No key needed—just twist to start." In the end, the police had no choice but to push the vehicle across the road.

    Real-life experience:

    2. Once, I was waiting at a traffic light at an intersection. There weren't many people on the road at the time, but there was a traffic police officer. (If there were no traffic police, I wouldn't run the red light.) Just then, an old grandmother directly crossed from the opposite side of me. The traffic police officer asked her to go back, but the old woman ignored him. She walked until the center of the road, where the traffic police officer rushed over to stop her and told her that running red lights was absolutely not allowed. The old woman said there weren't many cars and didn't need to waste time waiting.

    3. Once, I was chatting with a friend while crossing the road and didn't notice the red light at the intersection, so I just walked straight ahead. I didn't realize it was a red light until I reached the center of the road. Thinking that I'd already started crossing, I awkwardly ran forward. There were cars waiting to pass, and they had to slow down for us—they must have been annoyed. I felt really sorry! This taught me a lesson: never chat while crossing the street, and always check the traffic lights!

I will choose to follow traffic rules. Because regardless of whether there are vehicles or red lights. Respecting the social contract is a moral norm. If everyone runs the red light like this for a long time, the authority of society will gradually collapse, ultimately leading to more accidents. Even if you run a red light, people may have blind spots and there may be people and cars that you cannot see. Germany has a strong sense of rules, even at 3am on the road, no one will run a red light and will abide by traffic rules.

I would still choose to obey the traffic rules and wait for the green light. Traffic rules are not just pieces of paper; they are established based on safety considerations and the need to maintain order. Just because it seems safe to run a red light at a particular moment doesn't mean it actually is. There could be unexpected situations, like a car suddenly speeding through from a hidden angle or a pedestrian appearing out of nowhere.

The rules are established for our better life. Adhering to them will benefit us, while violating them will cause us trouble. Because I believe that we should obey traffic rules at all times. Running a red light alone is a very dangerous behavior because you are uncertain when other vehicles, such as fast-moving cars or buses, might rush over. In my daily life, even if I am the only one crossing the road, I will not run a red light and will seriously follow traffic rules. This way, even if an accident occurs, I will not be the main responsible party, which is more conducive to safeguarding my personal safety.
