1. The relationship between Dongjin Reservoir and Xiuhe River

Dongjin Reservoir is located upstream of the Liao River, a tributary of the Xiu River, in Fengxin County, Jiangxi Province. It is a controlled water conservancy project in the Liao River Basin. The reservoir was built in 1995 and formed an artificial lake with a storage capacity of about 1 billion cubic meters by intercepting the water from the Liao River. It is not only an important node for water resource allocation in the Xiu River Basin, but also forms a water system linkage between the Liao River and the main stream of the Xiu River, undertaking comprehensive functions such as flood control, power generation, and irrigation.

2. Impact on residents in the Xiu River Basin

-Flood control and disaster reduction: By regulating and storing the floods of the Liao River, the reservoir reduces the flood control pressure on the main stream of the Xiu River, reducing the incidence of flood disasters in downstream areas such as Fengxin and Gao'an by about 40%, and ensuring the safety of the lives and property of coastal residents.

-Energy supply: The Dongjin Hydropower Station, which is equipped with a reservoir, has an installed capacity of 120000 kilowatts and an annual power generation of about 300 million kilowatt hours. It provides clean power resources for urban and rural areas in the Xiu River Basin, especially alleviating the problem of winter electricity shortag
