   1. Narrative Poems: They tell a story, often with a hero or heroine and a series of events. For example, "The Canterbury Tales" by Geoffrey Chaucer   2.    Lyric Poems: Express the poet's personal emotions, feelings, or thoughts. Sonnets are a well - known form of lyric poetry. For instance, Shakespeare's sonnets.    3.    Epic Poems: Long narrative poems that usually deal with heroic deeds and events significant to a culture or nation. "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey" by Homer are classic examples.    4.    Dramatic Poems: Used in plays to express characters' emotions, advance the plot, etc. For example, the soliloquies in Shakespeare's plays are often in poetic form.   5.    Haiku: A traditional form of Japanese poetry with a strict syllable pattern (5 - 7 - 5 syllables in three lines). It often focuses on nature and a moment of insight.

 6.    Limerick: A humorous poem with a specific rhyme scheme (AABBA) and a light - hearted, often comical tone.

7.    Ode: A serious and often formal poem, usually written to praise or celebrate a person, thing, or idea. John Keats' "Ode to a Nightingale" is a famous one.
