There are some notable differences between English and American poetry in terms of expressing emotions and conveying ideas compared to other literary forms such as novels and drama.
Poetry is usually expressed in highly condensed language and unique rhythm and rhyme. It often uses symbols and metaphors to convey emotions and ideas with simple and powerful words, which can evoke the reader's imagination and resonance. The expression of emotions is usually more reserved and profound. For example, Shelley's "Ode to the West Wind" expresses revolutionary spirit with passionate language.
Novels, on the other hand, convey emotions and ideas through the creation of complex characters, plot development, and detailed descriptions of the setting. They can provide a more comprehensive and in-depth portrayal of characters' inner worlds, with more specific and nuanced expressions of emotions. For example, "Jane Eyre" depicts the protagonist's pursuit of love and equality through her experiences.
Drama, on the other hand, relies on stage performances, dialogues, and actions to convey emotions and ideas. It has a strong sense of immediacy and presence, and can quickly evoke emotional responses from audiences. Like Shakespeare's Hamlet, it depicts themes of revenge, morality, and other ideas through characters' dialogues and performances.
In general, poetry focuses on atmosphere and subtlety, novels emphasize plot and characters, and drama stresses performance and interaction. Each of them has its own unique features in expressing emotions and conveying ideas.
